His novel Moscow to Pietushki is a reference work and worship worldwide. That legend recounting the train journey of a human being soaked in alcohol and pessimism, is largely autobiographical. Yerefeyev's mind is still great, lucid and caustic, their memories intact: the Khrushchev -era thaw, the hopes raised and that were never fulfilled and the generation that disappointed.
