In a sweltering new york apartment, a group of Russian émigrés gathers across the deathbed of an artist named Alik, a charismatic character beloved by all of them, particularly the women who simply take turns nursing him as he fades from this world. Their reminiscences for the dying man and of their lives in Russia are punctuated by debates and squabbles: Whom did Alik love most? Should he be baptized before he dies, as their alcoholic wife, Nina, desperately wants, or be reconciled to your faith of his delivery by a rabbi whom is actually available? And just what will end up being the meaning for them associated with Yeltsin putsch, that is taking place around the world inside their long-lost Moscow but in addition prior to their eyes on CNN?
