Valentine ' Snakeskin ' Xavier is a New Orleans musician who leads a wandering life and make it very irregular frequent trouble with the law, why is forced to continually change location. During a trip, stops at Two Rivers, near the Mississippi. They get work in the store of Lady Torrance, a mature woman of Italian origin who becomes her lover.
