MOVIE SYNOPSIS: You can watch La Traviata, full movie on FULLTV - La Traviata stands or falls on its lead singers plus in Norah Amsellem and Rolando Villazon this 2005 Salzburg Festival performance has a pair whoever electric interactions and brilliant singing are irresistible. If Amsellem can not quite supply the vocal bloom of great Violettas regarding the past, hers is an attractive voice used with cleverness and dramatic strength and she has the coloratura chops to supply her Act I showpieces with flair. Villazon's tenor has ping on the top, great color, and an extraordinary selection of rubato, powerful shadings, and interesting phrasing which makes Alfredo's music sound newly minted. The Germont is Thomas Hampson, no Verdi baritone but an astute singer and star. Chorus and smaller functions are fine, the orchestra first-rate. Carlo Rizzi has odd notions in regards to the music (usually too fast, sometimes far too slow) but this Traviata triumphs despite his conducting.
