They were targeted for murder by a death squad within the Salvadoran army supported by the United States, as part of a policy of suppression of the poor for their struggle against exploitation and the " Theology of Liberation ". The film focuses primarily on the life of Jean Donovan through footage of news, interviews and home movies. " Roses in December " is a sorrowful look, it also absorbs the impact of foreign policy of the Reagan administration and the U.S. intervention in Central America.
