René is a monk devoted to his vocation as a member of the famous Knights Templar, a religious order whose mission to protect Christian pilgrims has degenerated into a power magnet that attracts moreover wealth and influence in the Kingdom of the Crusaders. Disillusioned with the corrupt motives of his superiors Rene is taken captive on the battlefield by brigands. Also manages to escape and is rescued by Hasan, a mysterious Muslim traveler.
