Tie Xi Qu was filmed between 1999 and 2001, detailing how the industrial area Tiexi District in Shenyang to join decay slowly, once a vibrant example of the Chinese socialist economy. Giving way to new industries, all Tiexi factories have begun to close, and much of the infrastructure and social constructions. The subtitle in English, " West of the Tracks " is a literal translation of " Tiexi ".
