At first it was a custom of the French League of Education to show students the educational mission conducted in the French colonies of West Africa. Once there, the director, who was only 21 years old, decided to film the reality: the lack of teachers and doctors, the crimes committed by the French army on behalf of the French people, the exploitation of colonized peoples ? The film was banned more than 40 years and René Vautier was imprisoned for several months.
