The internal revolts get writer divert attention towards politics. In 1661, Colbert, the chief adviser of the king, orders arrest of Bouquet, financial superintendent Paris, in order to concentrate all economic power in the monarch. Most of the artists and intellectuals quickly adapt to the new situation, betraying his old companions, who have been imprisoned. Not the case of De La Fontaine: he remains true to his principles and convictions and denounces the dangers that can arise from the concentration of power in the hands of one man. Even willing to give their lives for their ideals.
