In 1936, Norbert Schultze, cabaret pianist, put music to the lyrics he had written years ago by a German soldier. Three years later the album recorded in a pretty lackluster despite singer, Lale Andersen, which achieved success and popularity such that the propaganda of the Third Reich decided to endorse the song.
