From 1940-1944, the Vichy government collaborated with the Germans in the establishment of a regime that ruled occupied France in total harmony and under the influence of Berlin. Even fought Vichy French resistance itself, compatriots who fought against the invading army, which earned him the final blow to the humiliation and embarrassment by the allies and the French themselves during and after the war.
